It’s About Love
A Synopsis

"It's About Love" is a musical experience that takes us on a journey of self-discovery and love. Through contemporary and world jazz music, dance, and poetry by Rumi and passages from Tao Te Ching, we explore the universal themes of the human condition: relationships, love, fear, isolation, connection and celebration. Interpretive dancers act out relationship roles and interactions as they perform choreography written to the production's musical numbers.

The beginning sequence of "It's About Love" conveys our innocence at birth through the ambient Eastern-influenced song "Born Innocent”. The story continues to reveal how quickly we forget our true essence and, in turn, how we need to reconnect with the core of love that exists within ourselves. Songs such as the gospel-influenced "Heaven Knows" and the reggae pop number, "The Only Thing Real" bring up the challenges of social pressures and stress the need to look within to find meaningful solutions.

Once we rediscover the source of love within ourselves we are in a position to give and receive more freely; our relationships with others and the world improves, this feeling is portrayed in the celebratory songs "Oceano" and "Little Samba". The story takes us back full circle to a recognition of our original innocence and also a recognition of achieving oneness with life in the final segment, "It's Love": "You are a burst of laughter/you are a summer breeze/you are a baby crying/you are the river at my knees."

The mission of "It's About Love" is to inspire feelings of love and connectedness. Perhaps it will inspire a deeper understanding into the meaning of life.
